Founder and Leader of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has questioned the decision to imprison Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, for 20 years.

According to the outspoken preacher, keeping Wontumi in prison for two decades may not serve the country’s best interests, particularly when taxpayers will have to bear the cost of his upkeep throughout his incarceration.

Prophet Oduro believes the businessman should instead have been given the option of compensating the state for the damage caused by his actions.

Speaking during a sermon shared on social media, he argued that allowing Wontumi to repay the state could be more beneficial than simply keeping him behind bars.

“What is the use of Wontumi being in prison for 20 years? We should have given that guy options, 20 years or 10 billion dollars payback. What is the sense of Wontumi being in Nsawam Prison? He would definitely choose the latter.

“Now that he is in Nsawam for 20 years, what is the sense of it? He has offended the law, yes, but he should be given an option to pay back to reclaim the land. The judiciary should give the guy an option. Let him sell everything he has made to pay back, but for him to sit there while we waste money on him is nons+nse,” he said.

The High Court in Accra sentenced Wontumi to 20 years in prison on July 20, 2026, after finding him guilty of assigning mineral rights granted to his company, Akonta Mining Limited, to Michael Gyedu Ayisi and Henry Okum without approval from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

But Osofo, if they ask him to pay back, he’s a politician ooo. His party will oneway come to power and what he will do to make back all the money eh.
