SpaceX Surpasses Tesla in Value as Elon Musk’s Business Empire Reaches New Heights

Elon Musk’s business empire has reached another major financial milestone, with SpaceX now valued above Tesla, putting two companies led by the billionaire among the world’s trillion-dollar businesses.

SpaceX entered public markets in June 2026 at a valuation of roughly $1.75 trillion, following a record-breaking initial public offering. Reuters reported that the IPO was designed to raise at least $75 billion for the company.

Since then, SpaceX shares have moved significantly higher. Recent market data put the company’s valuation at around $2.6 trillion, although its market value changes with the share price.

Tesla, meanwhile, remains one of the world’s most valuable companies. Recent market data puts Tesla’s value at around $1.4 trillion, meaning SpaceX has moved further ahead.

Two Trillion-Dollar Companies Under One Leader

The development gives Musk an unusual position in global business: he leads two companies whose market values are above $1 trillion.

Using recent market valuations of approximately $2.6 trillion for SpaceX and $1.43 trillion for Tesla, their combined value is roughly $4 trillion.

That combined valuation is larger than the annual economic output of many countries.

However, it is important to distinguish market value from revenue. A company’s market capitalization represents what investors collectively value the company’s equity at; it does not mean the company has that amount of cash or has generated that amount in sales.

SpaceX: From Rockets to Satellites and AI

SpaceX has evolved beyond its original rocket-launch business.

Its Starlink satellite-internet operation has become a major source of growth, while the company is also expanding into artificial intelligence following its integration with Musk’s AI businesses.

SpaceX reported $7.8 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2026, almost double its revenue from the same period a year earlier. Starlink generated more than half of the quarterly revenue, while the company’s AI business also recorded rapid growth.

SpaceX also reported very high investment spending. Capital expenditure reached about $18 billion in the quarter, with a large portion directed toward AI infrastructure and data centres.

Tesla Remains a Major Revenue Generator

Tesla’s business is much larger in annual revenue than SpaceX’s current operations.

Tesla generated approximately $103.6 billion in trailing-12-month revenue through June 2026, according to Stock Analysis data. The company had about 134,785 employees.

Tesla’s official second-quarter 2026 update also said the company generated more than $100 billion in revenue on a trailing-12-month basis for the first time.

The company’s 2025 annual revenue was approximately $94.8 billion, according to its financial reporting.

SpaceX’s market value is particularly volatile because it only recently became a public company. Its IPO valuation was around $1.75 trillion, but its shares subsequently traded substantially above the IPO price.

A Bigger Bet on AI

The biggest change in Musk’s business empire may not be the size of SpaceX itself, but what the company is becoming.

SpaceX is increasingly combining rockets, Starlink satellite communications, artificial intelligence and large-scale computing infrastructure.

In its first public earnings report, the company said Starlink had reached about 12 million subscribers, while AI revenue rose sharply.

Musk has also outlined an ambitious goal of reaching a $100 billion annualized revenue run rate by the end of 2026, although that is a company target rather than guaranteed revenue.

What It Means for Musk

The rising value of SpaceX gives Musk another enormous publicly traded asset alongside Tesla.

But the two companies are very different businesses. Tesla generates more than $100 billion in annual revenue, while SpaceX is investing heavily in satellite internet, AI and space infrastructure.

The market is therefore placing a huge value on SpaceX’s expected future growth rather than simply its current revenue.

For Musk, the development marks another extraordinary chapter in his business career: one entrepreneur now leads two companies each valued above $1 trillion, with their combined market value approaching $4 trillion based on recent valuations.
