LESOTHO LAWMAKER CALLS FOR RECIPROCAL TREATMENT OF SOUTH AFRICANS AMID ANTI-MIGRANT PROTESTS

A Member of Parliament in Lesotho, Machesetsa Mofomobe, has criticised South Africa over the ongoing anti-migrant protests, calling for South Africans living in Lesotho to be treated the same way Basotho nationals have allegedly been treated across the border.

Speaking during a public address, the lawmaker condemned the anti-immigrant demonstrations and accused South African authorities of failing to adequately protect foreign nationals.

Mofomobe also criticised members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), alleging that some officers had supported or sympathised with the protests instead of ensuring the safety of migrants.

The MP argued that if South Africans continue to target foreign nationals, then South African citizens residing in Lesotho should expect similar treatment, a remark that has since sparked debate on social media.
