Gunmen Kill Benue Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association Chairman After Peace Meeting
Tension has escalated in parts of Benue State following the killing of the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Risku Muhammad, and his associate, Yakubu Isah, by suspected gunmen shortly after a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred on Friday at Okudu village in neighbouring Otukpo Local Government Area, has heightened fears of renewed violence in communities already grappling with persistent insecurity and recurring communal clashes.
According to sources, Muhammad had attended a peace meeting convened by the Divisional Police Officer of Ohinmini Local
Government Area. The meeting brought together community leaders, security officials and Fulani herders to discuss measures aimed at restoring peace in Ayunne Community, where several residents were reportedly killed in a recent attack.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that Muhammad and his companion were returning from the meeting when their vehicle was ambushed by armed men, who opened fire, killing both occupants at the scene.
