Fluidstack Reaches $18 Billion Valuation as AI Data Center Demand Surges
A relatively little-known British AI infrastructure startup, Fluidstack, has reached a valuation of about US$18 billion, highlighting the enormous amount of capital flowing into the AI data-center industry.
Fluidstack began as a service that helped researchers access unused computing capacity. It has since evolved into a company focused on building and operating large-scale AI data-center infrastructure for major technology customers.
The company has become closely connected to Google’s push to expand the use of its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), its internally developed AI processors that compete with Nvidia’s chips in certain workloads.
Fluidstack is helping provide the infrastructure needed to deploy these processors outside Google’s own facilities. Its relationship with Anthropic is also significant, with the AI company committing to major data-center projects involving Fluidstack.
The startup has reportedly secured US$1.5 billion in new funding, taking its valuation above US$18 billion. Earlier in 2026, it raised another US$750 million at a valuation of about US$7.5 billion, showing how quickly investor interest in AI infrastructure has increased.
Fluidstack’s strategy differs from companies that primarily purchase Nvidia GPUs and rent computing power to customers. Instead, it is focusing heavily on building data centers and securing electricity capacity, allowing customers to bring their own or separately sourced AI hardware.
The company is targeting rapid expansion of its power capacity. An investor document reportedly projected that Fluidstack could manage about 1.3 gigawatts across more than 10 sites in 2026, with ambitions to expand substantially further in the coming years.
The rise of Fluidstack reflects a broader shift in the AI industry. The competition is no longer limited to who produces the fastest processors. Companies are also racing to secure electricity, data centers, cooling systems and other infrastructure required to run increasingly powerful AI systems.
With Google, Anthropic and other major technology companies spending billions on computing capacity, companies like Fluidstack are becoming an increasingly important part of the AI infrastructure market.
