Who is Akofena? What I know is that it is a ceremonial sword – Maame Ode jabs

Traditional singer Maame Ode has responded to claims that the songs she performed during the funeral of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka were aimed at Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

Speaking to the media after her performances, Maame Ode dismissed the suggestion that her choice of songs was intended to throw indirect jabs at anyone involved in the ongoing family dispute.

When asked whether her performance was directed at Kwadwo Safo Akofena, she responded with a question of her own.
“Who is Akofena?” she asked.

She then explained that, to her, “Akofena” simply refers to the traditional ceremonial sword.
“Akofena diɛ, sɛ ɛyɛ sekan,” she said.

Maame Ode also maintained that she does not know anyone by that name and insisted neither she nor her children had any connection with the person social media users were referring to.

“I don’t know anybody called Akofena. Even my children don’t know him,” she stated.

Her statement comes after she performed songs, including Hwe nea nkwaseafo ne kyere, during the final funeral rites of the late Kristo Asafo founder.

Because of the ongoing disagreement over the late Apostle’s funeral arrangements and leadership within the family, many mourners and social media users interpreted the performance as an indirect message aimed at Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

Maame Ode, however, insisted she was only performing traditional songs as part of the funeral rites and rejected suggestions that her performance was connected to the family’s internal dispute.
