PHOTOS FROM ARRESTED COUPLE’S ENGAGEMENT ON THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING SURFACES ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Photos of the engagement between Russian daredevils Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus (Ivan Kuznetsov) have resurfaced on social media following their dramatic arrest atop New York City’s iconic Empire State Building.
The images, shared shortly after the incident, capture the couple celebrating their engagement more than 1,400 feet above the ground on the building’s antenna after Beerkus proposed during the unauthorized climb. The photos show Nikolau displaying her engagement ring against the Manhattan skyline.
The couple made headlines after illegally scaling the Empire State Building’s spire, where they unfurled a large banner bearing the message: “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.” They remained atop the structure before descending, where officers from the New York Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit took them into custody without incident.
Authorities have charged the pair with multiple offences, including burglary, criminal trespass and reckless endangerment, following the high-risk stunt. Prosecutors allege they gained access to restricted areas of the building before climbing onto the antenna.
Nikolau and Beerkus are internationally known for their extreme “rooftopping” exploits and were featured in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, which chronicles their relationship and dangerous climbs around the world.
