GTA backs Homowo FightFest with ambitions to establish annual sports and culture showcase
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has thrown its support behind the maiden Homowo FightFest, with plans for the event to grow into an annual celebration combining boxing, culture, heritage and tourism.
A delegation from the organisers met with the GTA, where the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, was present to discuss possible collaborations and partnerships aimed at promoting the event as part of Ghana’s tourism and entertainment calendar.
The meeting highlighted the shared vision of using sport and cultural experiences to showcase Ghana to a wider audience, with GTA backing efforts to establish Homowo FightFest as a recurring event that attracts both local and international attention.
The 2026 Homowo FightFest is scheduled for August 22 at the Abelenkpe School Park and is expected to bring together boxing, music, culture and community engagement in celebration of the Homowo season.
The event forms part of a broader push to create platforms that connect sports with Ghana’s rich cultural identity, while creating opportunities for tourism growth and national visibility.
The organisers of the Homowo FightFest, PKO Group of Companies, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana Tourism Authority alongside partners Capitol Catering Entertainment and With Kels to introduce their initiatives and explore areas of collaboration.

During the engagement, PKO Group also presented the official invitation for the August event while highlighting other national projects under its umbrella, including the Animatic Frames National Arts Competition and the Lord Edwards National Back to School Campaign in partnership with Azalea Academy.
With GTA’s support and the organisers’ ambition to make it an annual fixture, the Homowo FightFest is positioned as more than just a sporting event, but a platform to celebrate Ghanaian heritage and promote the country through entertainment and tourism.
