Apple’s OLED iPad Mini May Bring a Major Price Increase

Apple’s upcoming OLED iPad mini could be significantly more expensive than the current model, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

Gurman said on X that Apple’s next small tablet may cost closer to $799, compared with the current starting price of $599. Using the Bank of Ghana’s October 9, 2026, interbank mid-rate of GH¢11.79 to one US dollar, the estimated prices are approximately GH¢9,420 for the rumoured model and GH¢7,062 for the current $599 version.

OLED Display Could Drive the Increase

The most important expected upgrade is an OLED display. The current iPad mini uses an LCD screen, while OLED technology allows each pixel to produce its own light.

This can deliver deeper blacks, stronger contrast and more vivid images. OLED screens may also provide better viewing quality for films, photographs, reading and gaming.

However, OLED panels are generally more expensive to manufacture than standard LCD displays. That could be one reason Apple is reportedly considering a higher price for the next iPad mini.

The new screen could also make the tablet more attractive to customers who want premium display quality in a smaller device. The iPad mini has traditionally appealed to people who prefer portability but still want access to Apple’s tablet software and accessories.

A20 Pro Chip Tipped

Gurman also expects the new iPad mini to use an A20 Pro processor. If accurate, this would represent a major performance upgrade over the current generation.

A more powerful chip could improve gaming, video editing, multitasking and artificial-intelligence features. It could also extend the useful life of the tablet by allowing it to support future versions of iPadOS for several years.
Camera Could Move to the Landscape Edge

Another reported change is the relocation of the FaceTime camera. Apple has already moved the front-facing camera to the landscape edge on some iPad models.

This position is more convenient when the tablet is placed horizontally for video calls, particularly when it is connected to a keyboard or used on a desk. The move could make the iPad mini more practical for online meetings, remote learning and FaceTime calls.

Revamped Speaker System

The new tablet is also expected to receive a redesigned speaker system. Reports suggest Apple may be working on a different audio design that could improve sound quality while supporting a thinner or more water-resistant body.

Better speakers would benefit users who watch videos, listen to music, attend online classes or use the tablet without headphones. The improvement could also help the iPad mini compete more effectively with premium compact tablets.

A Risky Price Strategy

A starting price near $799, or approximately GH¢9,420 before local charges, would place the iPad mini much closer to premium tablets than to entry-level devices.

The price could make the OLED iPad mini attractive to professionals and enthusiasts who value a small form factor. However, it could also discourage students and casual users who previously considered the iPad mini a relatively affordable way to enter Apple’s tablet ecosystem.

Apple may be betting that the OLED display, faster chip, improved camera position and upgraded speakers will justify the increase.
