Afari Military Hospital: $85m claim ‘fraudulent’, pay outstanding $500,000 — Minority to gov’t
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has urged government to drop what it terms a “fraudulent” $85 million claim and release an outstanding $500,000 to clear the way for the completion of the Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region.
The project, initiated in 2008 under the government of former President John A. Kufuor, was conceived as a military and specialist health facility to serve the Ghana Armed Forces and improve healthcare delivery in the middle belt. Despite being at an advanced stage of completion, the facility remains non-operational.
According to government, the contractor had demanded the settlement of alleged arrears of $85 million before returning to the site.
Addressing the media in Accra on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma, Kofi Amankwa-Manu maintained that only minor works remain and that the focus should be on delivering the facility for public use without further delays.
“The government must immediately abandon this fraudulent $85 million claim, pay the outstanding $500,000, and ensure that the contractor completes the remaining two percent of the work without delay for use by the Ghanaian people,” Mr Amankwa-Manu said.

He said attention must now shift from contested financial claims to the urgent completion of the project.
“We demand value for money, and we will protect the public purse,” he stated, warning against any attempt to approve what he described as questionable additional payments before the project is completed.
According to the caucus, completing the final phase of the hospital is now a national priority, given its strategic importance to the Ghana Armed Forces and the broader healthcare system.
