AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine to Host Maiden Agri Fair on October 16
AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine is set to host the maiden edition of the AGA Agri Fair 2026 on Friday, October 16, as part of efforts to promote local agriculture, agro-processing, entrepreneurship and market opportunities within the Obuasi enclave.
The event, which will take place at the Obuasi Municipal Assembly Forecourt from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., will bring together farmers, agro-processors, entrepreneurs and consumers for a day of buying, selling, networking and showcasing locally produced agricultural products.
Residents of Obuasi and surrounding communities are being encouraged to take advantage of the event to shop directly from local producers and support businesses within the community.
Visitors can expect a wide range of locally produced and value-added agricultural products, including gari and other cassava products, cooking oils, local spices, processed fish, poultry products, cereals, juices, dried fruits and other agricultural products.
According to Edmund Oduro Agyei, Director of Sustainability Management at AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, the AGA Agri Fair is intended to create a practical platform that connects local producers to consumers while promoting entrepreneurship, value addition and sustainable economic opportunities within the Obuasi enclave.
He said the initiative reflects AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to supporting local economic development and creating opportunities for people and businesses within its host communities.
“The AGA Agri Fair which will be held in partnership with MOFA, Obuasi Municipal and the Obuasi East Municipal Assemblies, provides an opportunity to bring producers and consumers together in one marketplace, while creating visibility and market opportunities for local businesses.
It is also an avenue to promote value addition and encourage more people to see agriculture and agro-processing as viable avenues for sustainable livelihoods,” Mr. Oduro Agyei said.
Beyond providing a platform for farmers and agro-processors to sell their products, the fair is expected to create opportunities for local businesses to connect with consumers, potential buyers and business partners.
The initiative also highlights the importance of value addition in agriculture, encouraging the transformation of locally produced raw materials into marketable products that can generate income, create jobs and strengthen local businesses.
The AGA Agri Fair 2026 is being held in the month of World Food Day, which is observed globally on October 16 each year.
The occasion provides an opportunity to spotlight the contribution of farmers and the wider agricultural sector to food security, livelihoods and economic development.
The Agri Fair is also aligned with AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s broader efforts under its Socio-Economic Development Programme (SEDP) to support sustainable livelihoods, enterprise development, skills development and local economic growth in its host communities.
